"Visualizations and Visual Illusions: How the Mind Tricks Us"
This talk is sponsored by the Science Education Department, is to encourage support for a major new initiative at Harvard to create a "Center for Research in the Science of Visual Learning", spearheaded by the CfA. Abstract: Neurobiology and cognitive psychology have made great progress in understanding how the mind processes information - in particular visual information. The knowledge we can gain from these fields has important implications for the presentation of visual information and student learning.

Physics for the 21st Century
The Science Media Group is producing Physics for the 21st Century, an 11-unit course designed for adult learners, including high school teachers, undergraduates, and the interested adult learners. Course materials will include a web-based textbook, 11 half-hour videos, and 3 interactive lessons. The course is designed by Harvard Professor of Astronomy and Physics, Christopher Stubbs, with units developed by a distinguished group of physicists from Harvard, Johns Hopkins University, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and other top universities and research centers. Funding is being provided by Annenberg Media. | ||||||||
